A welcome note from your sex coach

Hello everyone and welcome!

Wow, this is it. I can’t believe I’ve just launched my own website. It’s been quite a ride (well rather a few rides actually! Haha!). From post-marriage dating (quantitatively successful, hilarious and rather poignant too) to sex coach in training

Just about 5 years ago today, I was on one of my first ever post-marriage dates in upstate NYC (where I was living at the time) with a guy wooing me with his knowledge about the 5 love languages, which I had never heard about before. Have a go if you haven’t yet – learn about the 5 love languages. It certainly made me want to find out and experience more. That was the start of my own transformational journey.

Being single again after 20 years of marriage was terrifying. I had many down and dark moments, re-learning what my own needs were for the first time in my life, no longer having to align with my ex-partner’s. I started exploring my own sexual desires. It’s been intense, challenging and rewarding. Throughout that time, I’ve been wondering how to best support people (especially women) to help them make the most of their own life experiences.

Fast forward a few years and many hours of “theoretical and applied research” later, I’ve decided to train as a transformative life coach, whilst continuing working in my full-time job. I’m proud to say that I recently completed an ICF Accredited Diploma in Transformational Coaching from Animas Centre for Coaching (UK). I have been working with a variety of clients since I’ve certified, especially women. I love witnessing the positive impact that coaching has on people’s lives and spending 3-6 months together allows me to see real, lasting change. That made me want to do more.

At the end of the summer, I had a life-changing encounter at the British Museum, where one of my best friends had taken me to “Feminine power: the divine to the demonic”, the first major exhibition to explore female spiritual beings in world belief and mythological traditions around the globe, bringing together ancient sculpture, sacred artefacts and contemporary art.

This is how I came across Lilith, the first woman, the first wife of Adam and the allegedly, consort of Satan. On loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York was the sculpture Lilith (1994), by American artist Kiki Smith, “cast from the body of a real woman, her piercing eyes of blue glass directly confront the viewer as she crouches on all fours against the wall, her anatomy hidden preventing a voyeuristic view of her body. This vision of Lilith is both defiant and unnerving, possessing an intangible quality, acknowledging her shifting identity through time.” Kiki Smith said, “Lilith becomes this disembodied spirit that goes off and wreaks havoc and doesn’t want to be subjugated. Here she is transcending gravity and the constraints of her body.”

Finding Lilith and her rebellious spirit was a profound revelation and it felt like evidence: I had to share her story with others and work with her energy to help women reclaim their feminine power and align their lives with their true needs, exploring their sexual desires and embracing pleasure, so they can have autonomy in all areas.

So, I decided to develop a new website with the wonderful That’s Her Business crew, and train as a sex coach, to build a holistic sex coach practice and provide a safe space to explore the fun, pleasure, and endless possibilities of connecting to our sexual selves. The sex coaching industry is not regulated and anyone can self-proclaim being one. For me, it’s essential that I equip myself with the knowledge, tools, models and systems in sexology, in addition to my own personal life experience. There are so many more things I want and need to learn about, so I can hold a strong space with integrity for my clients, as a sexological clinician, trained by world-recognized experts.

Currently on my sex coaching course, I will be all set to take one-to-one bookings by Autumn 2023 and in the meantime, I’m very open to intro calls and broader life coach conversations so don’t be shy and reach out, I’d love to hear from you.

Sex has not always been such a comfortable topic for me in my past life. It was not something I was brought up to talk about openly. I recently experienced one of my remaining blockages: having to announce to my family (especially to my parents), my friends and my colleagues that I was training as a sex coach. I was paralyzed. What would they say? What would people say? Would they judge me? Would I be trolled on the internet? Would they mock me?

So, I worked with my own coach to confront and faced my fears of rejection, of being judged and of not “fitting in”. I worked on my limiting beliefs. I took the plunge and made my “coming out”. I sat down with my parents. I told them about Lilith’s story. I told them about mine too (well at least the edited version!). I told them about how I wish that over the past few years, I had been able to meet someone who could listen to me unconditionally, with no judgements or expectations, not just about my life in general but specifically about sex. And how I’d like to be that person for others. I told them that I wasn’t seeking their approval but wanted to inform them of my decision. They listened intently, paused for a long time and then said: “This is bravery and foolishness at the same time”. I couldn’t have come up with a better definition of sex myself 😊
